National handball returns to Polsat Television

Telewizja Polsat and the Handball Association of Poland have signed a multi-year agreement for the broadcast of matches of the Polish Women's and Men's National Teams, the ORLEN Cup of Poland for handball players and handball players and the ORLEN Summer Superliga tournament in beach handball for ladies and gentlemen. This is yet another installment of Telewizja Polsat's growing commitment to the development of domestic sport and, at the same time, the consolidation of the broadcaster's widest range of sports broadcasts on the Polish market.

Handball is one of the most important sports in Polsat Television's offering, both historically and in terms of the number of broadcasts. It was on Polsat's sports channels that Polish fans watched, among other things, the legendary Bogdan Wenta team's runner-up finish at the 2007 World Championships, the first-ever medal for the Kielce club in the 2013 EHF Champions League, and the 2016 EHF European Championships, the first to be organized in our country. From a sporting perspective, one of the architects of those successes was Sławomir Szmal. The charismatic goalkeeper, now the president of the Polish Handball Association, announced a new agreement on December 18, 2024, together with Polsat Television's sports director, Marian Kmita, covering broadcasts of, among others, the Polish senior men's and women's national teams' matches. Both signatories of this agreement hope that through their joint efforts, Polish handball will achieve further great triumphs in the coming years.

We are delighted and proud to announce our partnership with Polsat Television, which today becomes our new Media Partner. This is a special moment for Polish handball. The agreement we have concluded covers broadcasts of both home matches of the Polish men's and women's national teams and the ORLEN Polish Cup and ORLEN Summer Superliga competitions. I believe that the partnership with Polsat Television will be crucial for the popularization of handball in Poland. Thanks to professional broadcasts, modern technologies, and Polsat's many years of experience in producing sports events, our discipline will gain a new media quality. I have great hope that together we will attract thousands of fans to the screens who will fall in love with the emotions associated with handball. - commented Sławomir Szmal, President of the Polish Handball Association

The cooperation with Polsat Television opens up new opportunities for us in promoting handball. Polsat has been setting standards in sports broadcasting for years. Together, we want to create an exceptional sports product – accessible, attractive, and engaging for both loyal fans and new audiences. The agreement includes favorable conditions for both parties, and above all for Polish handball. It also provides good conditions for popularizing our discipline, great marketing value, and presence on open channels. Increasing the presence of handball on television means more top-level excitement for fans, but also an attractive space for sponsors and business partners. An additional opportunity associated with the partnership with Polsat Television is the fact that this broadcaster clearly focuses on our discipline, holding the rights to many handball events. We believe that thanks to Polsat Television, our promotional activities will become even more effective, and handball will become a permanent fixture in Polish homes. - assessed Tomasz Lewtak, Vice President of the Polish Handball Association

The new agreement between the Polish Handball Association and Polsat is valid from 2025 to 2029 and is based on four pillars. The first of these is the broadcast of all matches of our senior men's and women's national teams held in Poland in the World and European Championship qualifiers. The second pillar is all friendly matches of the Polish men's and women's handball teams played in our country. The third pillar includes the ORLEN Polish Cup for men and women. The final element of the agreement is the ORLEN Summer Superliga, a beach handball tournament. The event involves eight women's and eight men's teams, in a format that includes a group stage, knockout stage, and medal matches.

By signing a multi-year agreement last year for the broadcast of the ORLEN Superliga for men and women, we declared further involvement in rebuilding the condition of Polish handball. The next element of this puzzle is the announced national team matches in the World Cup and EURO qualifiers, along with friendly matches, the Polish Cup, and beach handball. And that's not all, as I remind you that we have also previously purchased the rights to the indoor European Championships for men and women in 2028-2030, the Champions League for men and women from the 2026/2027 season, and the beach European Championships for men and women in 2027-2029. Following the example of volleyball, we are fully committed to handball. This is stable support for the rebounding discipline, and for our viewers, a guarantee of comprehensive access to all the most interesting broadcasts in one place, both on television and Polsat Box Go streaming. - said Marian Kmita, Sports Director of Polsat Television

We are very pleased with the return of the men's and women's national handball team matches to the Polsat Sports family of channels. We had the great pleasure of being present at the birth of the great men's team, whose key figure was President Sławomir Szmal. The runner-up finish at the 2007 World Championships in Germany marked the beginning of great successes for this discipline, and the semifinal with Denmark and the final with Germany broke viewership records in the history of handball broadcasts in Poland. For many years, we also showed the successes of the Polish national team, as well as the excellent performances of the Kielce club in the EHF Champions League. Enriched by these experiences, we hope to open a new chapter in the history of broadcasting this discipline in Poland today, and we all wish success to both national teams. That is why we decided to make a comprehensive investment in national and international rights so that fans of this sport can watch the performances of our handball players on the channels and streaming of the Polsat Plus Group. - summarized Piotr Pykel, Deputy Sports Director of Polsat Television

The first opportunity to support Polish handball players on Polsat Sport family channels is the 4 Nations Cup tournament, which will be held in Płock from January 8-10, 2025. In addition to the White-Reds, Austrians, Tunisians, and Japanese will participate. Two matches will be played each day of the tournament at 17:30 and 20:30, with broadcasts of the Polish matches taking place in prime time.
