Plus retail and business customers will benefit from better coverage, higher service quality, and faster, more reliable 5G connectivity

Plus is launching a large-scale network expansion and modernization program as part of the strategic cooperation between Plus and Cellnex/Towerlink. Both retail and business customers will benefit from improved coverage, higher quality voice and data services, and faster, more reliable 5G connectivity. This will be the largest investment of its kind in the history of the Polish telecommunications sector, improving service quality in both urban and rural areas.

“This is an important milestone for Polsat Plus Group and a strategic investment in our future. A modern network will strengthen our market position, enable the development of new services, and create stable revenue streams. We believe that consistent investment in our network will support the Group’s continued growth and financial strength,” said Piotr Żak, CEO of Polsat Plus Group. “By expanding and modernizing the Plus network, we are strengthening not only our technological capabilities but also supporting Poland’s digital development. Modern telecommunications services are now a key factor in national security, economic competitiveness, and citizens’ quality of life. We want to play an active role in building the Poland of the future: a modern country fully leveraging the potential of digital transformation,” added Piotr Żak.

The agreement announced today also marks an important step in the next stage of development of Poland’s digital infrastructure.

“Together with Polkomtel, we will deliver a large-scale network modernization program that will improve coverage, capacity, and service quality for millions of users, while increasing energy efficiency and supporting the future development of 5G networks. This project also reflects the benefits of the shared infrastructure model, which helps accelerate network development, optimize investments, and improve operational efficiency,” said Marco Patuano, CEO of Cellnex Telecom.

“This is an investment whose benefits will be felt first and foremost by our customers. It includes several thousand, ultimately up to 5,000, new radio sites, completely new network equipment across all our existing and newly built sites, as well as new spectrum resources,” said Maciej Stec, CEO of Polkomtel, operator of the Plus network. “We will expand the network, increase its scale and capacity, and further develop 5G. This will provide our customers with even broader and better coverage, faster and more reliable internet access, higher service quality, and an enhanced user experience.”

Customers will ultimately gain access to more than 5,000 new network locations across Poland. Radio and network equipment at all transmission sites will be replaced with state-of-the-art infrastructure based on the latest available technologies. One hundred percent of the radio equipment used to deliver services will come exclusively from Nokia and Ericsson, Europe’s leading technology providers. The project will also expand the use of existing spectrum assets, activate new frequency resources, and deploy advanced antennas to further improve network coverage.

Customers will also benefit from the continued development of 5G technology. In addition to the 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz bands already in use, Plus will further expand its network in the 3600 MHz and 700 MHz bands. As a result, Plus will become the only operator in Poland offering 5G across four frequency bands, delivering the country’s best 5G speed and quality parameters. Among other developments, the Plus 5G network will significantly increase its capacity this year and next through the deployment of several thousand transmitters operating in the 3600 MHz band.

Following the expansion, Plus will ultimately be able to utilize several thousand additional infrastructure locations, bringing its total footprint to well over ten thousand sites.

All of these investments will translate into broader coverage, higher-quality connections, and even faster, more stable, and more reliable 5G and 4G mobile internet services for Plus customers.

A strategic project by Plus and Cellnex for the Polish telecommunications market

The expansion and modernization of the Plus network, carried out by Cellnex, is one of the largest single modernization projects in the history of Polish mobile telecommunications in terms of both scale and value. The project covers the expansion and modernization of several thousand base stations across the country.

The initiative is also an investment in the security and resilience of Poland’s critical infrastructure. One hundred percent of services will be delivered using equipment sourced exclusively from EU-based vendors Nokia and Ericsson. By expanding cooperation with European technology partners, Plus is reinforcing its unique position in the Polish telecommunications market.

The most advanced solutions, which will form the foundation of the operator’s next-generation services, will be developed in Polish manufacturing facilities and research and development centers located in Wrocław, Łódź, Kraków, Bydgoszcz, and Warsaw. Their creation will rely on the expertise and commitment of hundreds of highly qualified Polish engineers and technology specialists.
